I spent way too much time struggling to drill into my brick walls with a cordless Makita on the hammer setting. I was using masonry bits from the same brand but the progress was incredibly slow and it felt like the drill was just too weak for the job. Everything changed when I picked up a cheap corded hammer drill and some fresh bits from the local hardware shop. But I tried the new bits in my old cordless drill first and the difference was immediate and surprising. It turns out my old bits were likely dull or just not the right quality for this specific brickwork. When I combined the new bits with the corded drill it was like cutting through soft butter and I finished the work in seconds. I am annoyed at how many hours I wasted over the last year just because I didn't want to spend a little bit of money on better equipment.
