I have just finished an outdoor pool for my former teacher (now she's retired and happily living with her French husband). I did a gunite one, but I'm not sure if there are standards I need to meet for this? The finish product is pretty, I wish I could send a photo here but I respect their privacy but I admit it looks off on some places but I worked with an engineer so I know everything works. Anyway she says she's happy about it but maybe she's just saying that to make me feel good. Need your input.

Hahaha why do you have so little faith in yourself? OP, she's praising because you did good! If the structural integrity is good and it's been waterproofed, what are you worried about? Did you finish the surface with a pebble? What did you use?

If you collaborated with an engineer, you're likely in good shape,gunite standards primarily focus on things like shell thickness, psi, and curing. You might notice a few minor finishing quirks here and there, but as long as it's watertight and solid, you've done a great job. If she's satisfied, then I'd say you've definitley succeeded
