Recently inherited an old house with a chimney that needs repair but I've been struggling to find help. Contacted over 30 masons and none are willing to take on the job. I offered to pay whatever it costs but they won't even look at pictures of the damage. Some have said the project is too large or complicated while others mention the setup is too demanding or that they prefer stone work. Can't help but wonder if the real issue is the age of the house or concerns about liability with older chimneys.
Should I keep searching for a chimney mason experienced with older homes or is it worth looking into alternative repair options like DIY fixes or specialists? I'm skeptical about overcomplicating things but want a practical solution that respects the house's history. If anyone has advice I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts.
