Leveling Masonry skills

I want to build stone walls around the parking lot to create a safe area for my animals and crops. I usually stick to carpentry for my base building but I cannot find any skill books for wood and I do not want to waste my time without a multiplier. I have all the masonry books ready but I cannot find a way to actually gain experience points. It looks like I can only turn raw stone into blocks for zero points and everything else requires me to already be at level two. I am feeling stuck and I want to know if I am missing a specific magazine or if the leveling system is just broken right now. Building with stone seems like a great way to stay safe but I cannot figure out how to get past this first hurdle. I appreciate your help.

Try searching for a stone mallet or a specific chisel because some tools unlock basic tasks that grant experience.

Check if there are smaller decorative items like stone paths or floor tiles you can build to reach the second level.

@the drunk master *|* Look in mailboxes and bookstore shelves for any artisan magazines that might teach you how to make mortar.

Make sure you have a heavy hammer in your main inventory as some build menus will not show up without one.
