Replacing my masonry heater with a wood stove

I love the way my masonry heater looks but it is not keeping my house warm enough. I follow the instructions perfectly and the stones do get warm but they do not heat my large living space well. My monthly power bill is up to 500 dollars and I am very disappointed with how this fireplace is performing. I am thinking about tearing it out and putting in a free standing wood stove to get more heat and lower my costs. A wood stove usually puts off more immediate warmth and might be a better choice for a big room. I want to know if anyone else has made this switch and if it actually saved them money on their electric bill.

Try using a fan to help circulate the radiant heat from the masonry stones into the rest of the house.

@redtarget Have you checked for air leaks or poor insulation that might be letting your heat escape?

Make sure your wood is seasoned and dry because wet wood will not produce much heat in any system.

What is the total square footage you are trying to heat with just the one unit?

While I was checking some posts in other forums, someone mentioned a convection blower. Can someone confirm if I need it or is it better to consult a professional?
